Red Hook U10 Blizzard Travel Team places 2nd at "Soccer Fever" Tournament.


On Sunday, February 29th, 2004 the Red Hook Blizzard Under-10 Travel team participated in the 7th Annual Red Hook "Soccer Fever" Indoor Tournament and took 2nd Place in the Under-10 division. The tournament is hosted by the Red Hook Soccer Club and was held on February 28th and 29th at Bard College's Stevenson Gym. The 2 day event supported 5 different age groups, playing a total of 70 games and attracted 28 teams from various areas such as; Bedford, Beekman, Carmel, East Fishkill, Greenwood Lake, Highland, Hyde Park, LaGrange, Minisink, New Paltz, Newburgh, Pleasant Valley, Poughkeepsie, Rhinebeck, Wallkill, and Wappingers.

The U10 age bracket had a total of 8 teams competing for the 1st or 2nd place trophies. The Red Hook Blizzard team completed it's 1st round - Group B games with 2 wins and 1 tie. They won their semi-final round game against LaGrange 1-0, which was their 2nd shut-out of the day! In the final match - the Championship Game against Beekman - the Blizzard's skill, desire, and team play delivered a go ahead goal in the first 3 minutes of play. This advantage was quickly offset by the attentive Beekman team and the game concluded with a 1-1 draw. Based upon the Tournament's tie-breaking rules, the Beekman team was awarded the 1st place trophy because of their better goals against record for the day.

Also participating in the tournament from the Red Hook Soccer Club program was the Under-9 Storm travel team. Under the coaching leadership of Kyle Shoemaker and assistant coach Kyle VanWagner, the team members; Rory Shoemaker, Matt Jantzen, Johnny Ludlam, Ian Taylor, Padraic Parr, Michael Jankowiak, Steven Campagna, Kyle VanWagner Jr, and Macklin Willigan has a strong showing during their 5 games of the day.
